Airport Sunflower

As we walked briskly through

One of the airports on one of our trips

I spotted a guy with a sunflower tie

It was definitely too much

But it reminded me of a poem

I had written years ago

I had seen someone

Holding a sunflower at an airport

I had made up stories

for whom that flower was

And secretly hoped, against all reason

That it was for me

But when I saw the guy

With the sunflower necktie

I didn’t wonder, I didn’t hope

Because I have you

And we can’t miss our flight.
