Uncertain Spring

Elizabeth Cotton

It was an uncertain Spring

And in just two weeks we went from

Bits of pixel and soundbytes

To walking hand in hand toward the beach,

To a pair of giddy teenagers kissing in a Camry

Until the park rangers kick us out because

Griffith closes at 10 and it’s a school night,

To sitting on rocks facing the ocean

Wind tousling our hair

Leaning heads on each other,

To a shared playlist,

To people who know each other’s secrets

Who now know more about each other

Than anybody else in the entire world,

So although it was an uncertain Spring

Although I was uncertain about myself--

We were strangely certain about this.
